For nearly one
hundred years Rotarians have believed in the maxim " Service before
Self ".
The practice of Charity is very
important to all Rotarians and, locally, we support many charitable objects. In
the last Rotary year we committed over £17,500 to charity.
To do this we are usually very
active raising funds.
We support the elderly by taking
three coach parties for an afternoon out in the spring.
We support very seriously a
variety of initiatives to encourage the development of our local youth.
We support many local worthy
causes including in recent times the provision of extra books to a local
primary school and assisting another primary school with a project to help
their contempories in Namibia.
We also support a wide variety of
other charities, local, national and international, some of them Rotary
charities. Of course we can only do this if our fund raising continues successfully and for this we do need you
to play a part.
This is a random selection of
Charities supported recently.

Polioplus - Polio Eradication |
|
In 1985, Rotary launched the PolioPlus program to protect children worldwide from the cruel and fatal consequences of polio. In 1988, the World Health Assembly challenged the world to eradicate polio. Since that time, Rotary's efforts and those of partner agencies, including the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and governments around the world, have achieved a 99 percent reduction in the number of polio cases worldwide. Rotarians stand at the brink of a great victory and look forward to celebrating the global eradication of polio in 2005, the organization's centennial year. |
